Zhangjiagang Economic & Technological Development Zone

As a national-level industry park, Zhangjiagang Economic & Technological Development Zone (ZETDZ) was established in 1993. Surrounding the downtown area, it covers an area of 153 km2 and has a population of 500,000. In 2016, the GDP of this zone reached 77.2 billion RMB. ZETDZ has been dedicated to building the concentrated area for Headquarter Economy, Scale Economy and Innovative Economy in the Yangtze River Delta. It prioritized in developing six emerging industries, namely intelligent equipment, robot technology, green energy and green illumination, remanufacturing, smart grid and electronic chips. It has brought in over 50 international companies and Global Fortune 500, cultivated 10 listed companies, and owned 13 characterized industrial bases of provincial level and above, namely National Remanufacturing Industry Base, National Robots Industrial Park, and National Animation Experimental Park. Strategic cooperation on research and production with top universities like Tsinghua University, Peking University and Harbin Institute of Technology has also been conducted. With 96 Research Platforms of provincial level and above, it has become China's Modeling Base for Overseas Talents, National Base for International Technological Cooperation, and National Modeling Base of Research and Production, which preliminarily forms a modern industrial development pattern led by core technologies with featured industries and vigorous innovations. In 2013, ZETDZ was crowned as "China’s Top 10 Competitive Industrial Parks" and established "National Remanufacturing Industry Demonstration Base", one of the first in China and the first in east China.
